Mountain adventure.....

Just returned from a 'hike' to a sebird colony at Grand Benare. We went to check if the Barau's petrels were breeding. This species is endemic to Reunion and is seriously threatened with extinction via. cat predation. Well, i was promised a simple three hour walk up to the site; a slight underestimate by my French collegues as it took twice that long, with what can only be called a two hour nightmare descent into the 'suspended valley' below! To top that off the temperature dropped to 0 degrees at night and so i didn't get much sleep! But we saw the petrels displaying and caught one cat so the trip was a success.
